Routine OB Care
Routine obstetrical care at The Woman's Clinic includes:
Before delivery. . .
- Plan to be seen every four weeks until the 28th week prior to delivery.
- At the 28th week you will be seen bi-monthly until the 36th week, then weekly until delivery.
After delivery. . .
- A check-up examination in the office four to six weeks following delivery.
- Examinations also at times deemed necessary by your doctor.
NOTE: Your doctor delivers his/her own patients during weekdays and rotates with the other Woman's Clinic physicians on an on-call basis at night, on weekends, and on holidays.

Prenatal Visits
There are two ways that you may arrange prenatal visits:
-
Option 1: See only your doctor of choice throughout your entire prenatal care at the Woman's Clinic.
-
Option 2: See your doctor of choice but also alternate between your doctor, the other doctors, and the nurse practitioners at some point during your pregnancy. This rotation permits you to meet all of the clinic doctors and nurse practitioners.
After delivery, you will see your primary doctor or nurse practitioner for post-partum care and the 6-week examination.
These choices are entirely up to you, so feel free to change your mind at anytime during the course of your pregnancy. Please discuss any questions or preferences regarding this issue with your doctor.
If your doctor is called away for a delivery or emergency surgery during the time of your scheduled appointment, you may choose to wait for your doctor's return, reschedule your appointment, or see our nurse practitioner, who is also available to perform routine prenatal exams as well as assess or discuss other routine obstetrical needs.

Important Things To Remember About Your Obstetrical Care
-
Before the birth of your baby, make arrangements for pediatric care for your baby.
-
You may wish to pre-register at the hospital before going to the hospital when you are in labor. Mail-in hospital pre-registration forms are available through your doctor's office.
-
Please notify our offices of any change in address, telephone, or other pertinent information.
-
Please take medical advice only from your doctor or the nurses on staff at the Woman's Clinic. There is little to be gained and possible harm to be done from taking medical advice from other sources. Each pregnancy is different; therefore, advice from well-meaning friends and family should not be taken. The best source of information is from your obstetrician. (See also our section on the Medical Information Nurses.)
-
You may want to make a list of any medical problems or concerns that you have to discuss with your doctor at your next scheduled appointment. This practice will assist you in making sure that all of your questions are answered and will reduce the number of phone calls back to the Clinic.
-
The official birth certificate will be filed at the Lafayette City Health Department. You may obtain a copy of it two months after the birth of your baby. This is the LEGAL birth certificate.
-
The hospital will give you a complimentary certificate after the birth of your baby. This is not the actual birth certificate.

Obstetrical Fees
On your first obstetrical visit, you will be asked to see the financial counselor to discuss fees and insurance coverage. The obstetrical fee includes:
- Routine care for a normal pregnancy, including prenatal care and treatment.
- Management and treatment before, during and after delivery.
Please note that these fees DO NOT include the first visit, laboratory visits, ultrasounds, medications and emergency services.
A payment plan will be discussed and implemented based on your insurance coverage. You will also receive monthly statements in order to keep you apprised of your account status. At some point in your prenatal care, you may be asked to discuss your account status with financial services.
If you have any questions or concerns, you may call our financial staff Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
