About Our Nurse Practitioners

A Nurse Practitioner is a registered nurse who has had additional specialized education including advanced nursing and selected medical studies in addition to a specialized preceptorship in obstetrics and gynecology.

With this training, the Nurse Practitioners at the Woman's Clinic have been hired because of their specialization, certification and dedication to obstetrics and gynecology.

Nurse practitioners basically care for healthy women with typical health care needs. They focus on well-being and preventing health problems that could require complicated treatment.

Nurse practitioners are qualified to provide you with many health services:

  • Physical exams and health counseling
  • Caring for reproductive health problems and concerns
  • Pap smear screening and follow up
  • Contraceptive counseling
  • Pregnancy testing and prenatal care
  • Evaluation and treatment of common infections
  • Evaluation/treatment of sexually transmitted diseases
  • Screening and referral for other health problems.

Medical Information Nurses

Our Medical Information Nurses are State Board Certified Registered Nurses who staff the telephones from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to discuss health problems that you believe do not warrant an office visit but do require some advice.

Using the doctor-prepared written protocols as their first hand knowledge of your doctor's practice, the Medical Information Nurses will address your concerns directly or, after consulting with your doctor, advise you of that consultation or to come see your doctor. Additionally, the Medical Information Nurse will secure and discuss the results of your laboratory tests. They also can assist you, under your doctor's direction, in renewing non-narcotic prescriptions. When calling for a prescription renewal, please have the necessary information (prescription name, pharmacy you wish to fill, etc.) available at the time of the call.

Another of the more pleasant tasks that these nurses provide is the post-partum follow-up call. This is a call to you following your delivery. Its sole purpose is to see how you and the new baby are doing and to offer advice, if needed.
